Wake Up and Dream [poem]

In the life of go-getters and sinners, I move.I move through the storm to calm windsWhere pain and perseverance are my only friend.I seek guidance from the lord, but fall short as I measure the man I am, to him. It’s not blasphemy; I strive to live a righteous life while I fight for love and peace of mindIn search of wisdom, peace and equality...

Precedents and Standards

I'm often asked who I look up to as an artist, or who inspired my style as a poet, emcee or writer -- and that's easy to answer. I could go on for days listing singers, songwriters, emcee and poets. The tougher question to answer has been, "who did you model AG One after?" The honest answer, its simple -- I created an home for artists, namely myself, that would stand behind someone with talent that had something to say in their music but needed an avenue to be heard [of course there's more to it, but I'll save that for my first prime time interview :)]....

Recording Artist and Performing Artists

Many people don't understand the difference between a recording artist and a performing artist, let alone recognize that the two are not correlated. There is a difference between being a recording artist and being a performing artist; title says it all. Very few have mastered both realms, and those who have are legends. What young artist need to understand, and I stress this to my artists all the time, they need to have something that isn't on the CD or the album. They need to have something that is going to keep fans wanting to see them live in concert over and over again. If a fan goes...

Crumbs today, feast tomorrow

I have a story, and this story took place recently. It’s summer, and rightfully so my boys and I took a vacation. Not so much of a vacation as an extended weekend get-a-way. Anyway, we were in Vegas and I know "what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas" but this story needs to be shared. So I was walking down the strip headed back to my hotel with the fellas when I notice a man standing on the corner holding CD’s, which turned out to be his demo. As I approached, we made eye contact and he asked me if I was a fan of hip-hop. I told...

Artist Integrity

At what point is making a sacrifice considered selling out?It seems that a majority of the recording artists, writers, musicians and producers that I’ve worked with in the music industry all have their own project that they are trying to get off the ground. While that is in the works, they all seem to be working behind the scenes on other artists projects just to fund their own… myself included.I find myself to be very picky with whom I work with; reluctant even. Some really dope opportunities have presented themselves, but I didn’t necessarily choose to pursue them. My hesitation might have been with the image that...

I fight for love, and peace of mind.

"I fight for love, and peace of mind" is what I said to her.Yesterday I was having a conversation with a friend about how I like to debate and sometimes start a discussion defending a point of view that I might not necessarily agree with just because i enjoy playing devils advocate. She told me that I was more of the fighter-type person opposed to the lover-type person she assumed i was...

Longevity in Music.

"It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change."There are artists that are timeless, and artists that move with the time. Its a fine line that you have to walk but I believe the most successful artists are those who are able to recreate themselves without compromising the integrity of their artistry. I look up to the artists who's music seems to always fit the time. Whenever you hear it, you can still relate it to daily life.On one hand, I strive to write what I THINK people can relate to or what they'll like...

The Industry

I grew up with the mind set that if I want to see change, I must be the change I see. So with that ingrained in my mind, I initially started off my quest to leave my positive impression on the world through education, but that is a blog for another time. I don't know if many people know about my business ventures and/or my involvement in music...
